Flower Boy Next Door

Flower Boys Next Door (also known as Yiutjib Ggotminam; My Cute Guys, My Neighbor Flower Boy, The Pretty Boy Next Door, My Flower Boy Neighbor) is a 2013 romantic comedy based on Yoo Hyun-sook’s webtoon, "I Steal Peeks At Him Every Day" – a story about the shy and frugal copy editor, Go Dok Mi (Park Shin Hye from Heartstrings,  You’re Beautiful,  Stairway to Heaven, Tree of Heaven, Cyrano Agency) who has been secretly peeping out of her apartment at her neighbor, Tae Joon (Kim Jung San) but was eventually caught by Jung San’s cousin, Enrique Geum (Yoon Shi Yoon from Baker King, Me Too, Flower), a video game designer visiting from Spain.

Meanwhile, Dok Mi lives next door to the introvert and mysterious webtoon artist, Oh Jin Rok (Kim Ji Hoon from Love and Marriage) and his roommate assistant, Yoo Dong Hoon (Ko Gyung Pyo from Operation Proposal) whose recent project, “Zombie Soccer” was rejected due to claims of plagiarism against Enrique Geum’s video game. Pressed for time to create a new webtoon, Jin Rok draws inspiration from the life of Dok Mi and his real-life dilemma in confessing to her, whom he has been secretly admiring since moving in to the apartment complex.

Dok Mi’s has been traumatized by the betrayal of her close friend in high school, Cha Do Hwi (Park Soo Jin from My Girlfriend is a Gumiho, Boys Over Flowers) who subjected to nasty rumors that caused her to withdraw from everyone around her. Dok Mi’s flower boy neighbors Enrique, Jin Rok and Dong Hoon, Dok Mi is also joined by Japanese cutie, Watanabe Ryu (Kouki Mizuta) who lives momentarily in South Korea to study the country’s cuisine. This powerhouse of pretty boys draws Dok Mi out from her comfortable solitary living and has her experiencing the real world in no time.

Flower Boy Next Door is the third South Korean drama project of tvN’s Oh! Boy series known for flower boy leading men (first series is Flower Boy Ramyun Shop and second being Shut Up Flower Boy Band).

Cheongdamdong Alice

Cheongdamdong Alice is a 2012 Korean drama starring Moon Geun Young (from Marry Me, Mary!, Cinderella’s Sister, Little Bride, A Tale of Two Sisters, Autumn in My Heart, Innocent Steps), Park Si Hoo (from Sassy Girl Chun Hyang, Which Star are You From?, Princess’ Man, Prosecutor Princess), So Yi Hyun (from Heartstrings) and Kim Ji Suk (from Personal Preference). The story centers on a budding designer’s attempts to be called among the elite in society and tries to fake her way into getting herself a rich man to marry. The story is based on a novel entitled Cheongdam-dong Audrey by Lee Hye-kyung.

Han Se Kyung (Moon Geun Young) is an aspiring designer who, despite being extremely talented, finds herself always at a disadvantage in the glamorous fashion centre of Cheongdamdong, just because of her humble social status.  She barely passes the interview at GN Fashion but ends up employed as an errand girl for the wife of GN Fashion President Shin Min Hyuk (Kim Seung Soo from I Am Legend). Se Kyung later learns that the President’s wife is no less than her high school arch nemesis, Seo Yoon Joo (So Yi Hyun) who seeks to revenge on Se Kyung.

Fortunately, Se Kyung’s best friend, Choi Ah Jung (Shin So Yul from Reply 1997) learns Yoon Joo used to be married in Paris and Se Kyung uses this secret to blackmail Yoon Joo unless she teaches Se Kyung how to attract a rich man. Eventually, Yoon Joo gives in and teaches Se Kyung the tricks of the trade.

In the course of preparing to be a classy lady, Se Kyung meets Seung Jo (Park Si Hoo), who returns to Seoul as Jean Thierry Cha, the youngest CEO of luxury brand, Artemis. Seung Jo has a dark past and a falling out with his father, Royal Group Chairman Cha Il Nam (Han Jin Hee from Dating Now, Little Bride), who disinherits Seung Jo for choosing to live in Paris with a woman who does not measure to Chairman Cha’s standards.  Seung Jo takes a liking to the candid, kind-hearted and hardworking Se Kyung but misrepresents himself as Jean Thierry Cha’s assistant, Secretary Kim so he can continue seeing Se Kyung without thoughts of being admired for his wealth rather than the true person he is.

Soon, the two start dating but struggles with trust issues as both their secrets are revealed and their sincerity is questioned.

Cheongdamdong Alice is derived from the word play, Alice in Wonderland, where the lead character wanders into a strange new world apart from her natural habitat.

Cheongdamdong refers to a posh neighborhood in Gangnam, Seoul called Cheongdam, known for as the hub of luxury brand shops. It is also known as the “Fashion and Art Street” of South Korea.
